Firefox screen goes dark - how to control?

Asked by Stuart Gillies

When I am browsing with Firefox I sometimes find that the screen goes dark, with the content still visible in grey. I believe it is something to do with Firefox not responding, though I am not really certain. However, it is usually only for a short time and then it comes back. This is very irritating behaviour, does not seem to serve any useful purpose, and I want to turn it off. Any ideas on why it does this, and on how to adjust it? I have searched quite hard but not found any referece to this behaviour.

I´m using FF 3.5 under Karmic on a quad AMD mobo with lots of memory so I doubt there is a resource problem.

The best way to deal with that is to close Fire Fox and then start again.
