Ubuntu 9.10 works damn slow on my Dell Laptop

Asked by l_u_har

I have installed Ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 on my brand new Dell Studio 15 laptop.I have installed it within Windows Vista.
The problem is though i have configuration that exceeds the required configuration, it works damn slow.
I had previously used Kubuntu 8.04 (desktop version) and it worked quite smoothly and quite fast.
But for the current version, when i select a particular option it takes 15 seconds to highlight the option and another 10 to open it. I Have to sometimes click again to open the damn option.
Please help me as i am a rookie when it comes to using Ubuntu/Kubuntu and i am totally dependent on the GUI of the OS.
Thank You.

I noticed a slow down in 8.10 that was strongly related to the GUI effects. Have you tried disabling these effects?

System => Preferences => Appearance => Visual Effects => None

Try that, see if it helps.

Disabling compiz would definitely increase your performance, try the
fix mentioned above :D
