Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) on Dell Mini 10v: when folders are opened, random background window colors are present and cannot be reset!

Asked by MichaelN

I am a brand new user of Ubuntu and I am running a New Dell Mini 10v with Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) installed by Dell! My problem is this: When I open folders on my desktop or on my thumbdrive random background colors appear in the folder window. Sometimes the background color is white or blue or yellow or red or green and even black-it is hard to tell what will come up which is really annoying and it does happen all the time! I want the default white background in all of my folder windows so I can see my folders and their text properly all the time everytime but I cannot seem to achieve this. I have reset everything that can be reset to defaults in my appearance panel and themes and the folders themselves but it persists! I have not installed any additional supported, unsupported or third party appearance items or any other software that would do this! Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated as I am sure it is probably something simple I have missed or do not know about yet! Thank you, Michael.

Okay, that is *very* strange and it shouldn't be happening on its own,
did you try and scripts or such that apply a random background to your
desktop

Hi Vikram,
Thank you for responding. No, I have not run any scripts at all! Is it possible a script could have been installed or set into motion and be running without my knowing or when Ubuntu was installed at the factory?

Nope not possible :D I am sorry for the inconvenience, but is it
possible to link a picture to imageshack of this when it happens, it
could be a *strange* regression or something of that sort
