Ubuntu Bootup delay

Asked by srikumar

I am using a Ubuntu 9.10 and WinXP dual boot system.

I recently did the upgrade to Ub 9.10. Since then the bootup is very, very slow and the start up screen shows my login name with my Windows login Logo. Perhaps this is the cause for the delay ?. It seems that the windows setting have been imported into Ub 9.10. I do not want this; i want my Ub 9.10 to be clean and completely free of WinXP since I intend to get rid of WinXP once i find a proper Accounting Package that works under Ubuntu.

How to get back to the earlier bootup screen and to speed up the login ?

any suggestions ?
thanks
srikumar

Alright so first for the accounting package, you could look at gnucash
which is a nice application to manager a lot of accounting stuff. After
that the slow boot can be diagnosed here [1] please post back the
results or link the image to imageshack.us

Sir, you can't attach files to launchpad :D you will have to link
those to an outside source like imageshack.us and then post the upload
links here

Vikram

Thanks for the picture, your boot up is kind of slow, and some of the
last processes are taking unusually long, I assume that is because of
GRUB 2 and it not being able to handle a dual boot. I will talk to the
developers as this is a common problem for a lot of users, and is
being currently worked upon. Sorry for the inconvenience, a patch will
be released soon in updates to fix the problems as the devs. decide to
take actions on it.

Regards,
Vikram

Thank you, shall await the patch.

In the meantime, I wonder whether the slow boot-up is due to the problem mentioned in Q 90440 ?. Perhaps it is worth checking this out.

I also note that the boot-up time has improved since installing the regular updates.

Thank you
srikumar
