This did not solve my problem. Now I am unable to convert the package. Whenever I attempt to follow the process I get a response of I need to login as "root". I am the system administrator, so I should be root. Why can't I utilize this package? What do I need to do to be "Root". Or, conversely how would I use "fakeroot"?

kermit@C70261-A:~$ $sudo alien -k /home/kermit/Desktop/Linux/Epson/iscan-2.3.0-1.c2.i386.rpm
Must run as root to convert to deb format (or you may use fakeroot).

In all versions of Ubuntu, you must sudo to become root for that session.

The terminal will then ask for your password. Put in the password you
set for yourself.

Also it would be helpful to you to learn to use the man pages. At the
terminal place the words man fakeroot and it will tell you have to run
it and what it is about.

Hope this is helpful

You need to install iscan, provided here: http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do

If you use deb packages, try: sudo alien packagename.rpm, which will generate a deb for you. Then, install each deb package by issuing: sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb

Once you are done, launch iscan, or try: sudo iscan (if you want to rule out permission problems)

Last, when using the V350 with Linux, you will see that it's limited to 2400dpi. To lift that restriction, check this out:

As of writing there are i386 and amd64 Debian packages at http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do now.

No need for alien anymore and that 2400dpi has been lifted as well.

Can you help with this problem?
