unable to set 1440x900 under Ubuntu 9.10 with Nvidia GForce 7300LE

Asked by CythoN

Hi all,

i'm not able to set the resolution any higher than 800x600. Im using Ubuntu 9.10 with an Nvidia 7300LE PCIe card with a ViewSonic VA1903wb LCD monitor

System info: Linux AMD 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 17:01:44 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
This is a fresh install with updates done.

When I checked through /var/log/Xorg.0.log I can see that the correct card seems to be found.
I want to run 1440x900.

Ive included some parts of the log file and the output of the lshw -C display command that may help.

Thanks!

Some extra info I would like to add.

I went into the system > preferences > appearance > visual effects menu, applied the "extra" option, the system searched and auto installed the NVidia driver. It asked to be rebooted, which I did. Now it only runs at 640x480, not even 800x600!!

The Nvidia Xserver settings panel is now installed but it only offers 640x480 or lower.

This is exactly the same with Ubuntu/Suse/Mint I was unable to get it working with PC-BSD either!

Please help!

So, please pay attention.

First time U used video driver like xserver-xorg-video-nv.
After enabling compiz, U have started with driver nvidia-185-glx (possibly)

So, please convert this Q to bug and provide some addition info in following way:

$ apport-collect -p <Package name (xserver-xorg-video-nv or nvidia-185-glx)> <Launchpad bug number>

Where do I get the bug number? Ive tried to submit a new bug from the system in question only to be given another error:

Error ID: 00PS-1484N1601

The output from apport-collect gives an error also, as I need the bug number.
