When signing into Ubuntu, everything is much larger (too large to be normal).

Asked by Tiffany Corbett

I have had Ubuntu for almost a year now.
Before, I had Vista but I was afraid I would get a virus since I had no anti-virus or software and also I was having problems because I couldn't get an update for a very long time (which made it so I couldn't use my Zune).
So I decided to get Ubuntu 9.10 (I think?).
It was working great. I remember the first time I got it the same problem happened now.
About 2 months ago, my computer crashed (and didn't get fixed until today, I don't even know exactly how I did when even a computer professional couldn't fix it the day he checked it out).
Today Ubuntu 10.04 LTS was working great. Everything looked readable and there was enough space for everything to be read. So I shut the computer off after about an hour or so of use.
A couple hours later I came back on and EVERYTHING is larger than it should be.
I can still use the computer, it just doesn't look as nice as it did before. And I know something's wrong. I know there's a way to fix it, and I know I've done it before, but I can't seem to remember.
Please, help me.
Thank you in advance. :)

That's what shows up in the terminal. Okay, what I think I want to do is change my resolution (I think that's what I did last time). But there;'s no Display option in preferences anymore.

Tiffany,

Do you have System / Admin / Nvidia X Server Settings - this would only be present if you have installed the proprietary Nvidia driver from System / Admin / Hardware Drivers.

Best of luck,
George

thank you. :)
and oh btw. I figured it out. I checked out nvidia x. and a whoel bunch of stuff that I forgot exactly what I did.
But it said that the maximum screen size it could be set at was 600x480, so I tried a whole bunch of stuff and made the maximum 1240x1024 or something. then I went to system, admin, hardware drivers and then it worked after a quick reboot. had to hit f1.

To mark this question as solved please don't use mail to manage your question

Please don't reply via mail to Launchpad mail notification but visit directly your question Launchpad site link.
Replying via mail to launchpad message might expose your email address to the net and you will give a lot of
spam.

Then answering using mail will result into a confused thread (very long with unecessary replyed info) and you can't
manage your question state.
