USB keyboard and mouse not working in 12.04

Asked by LEGOManiac

I've just done a release upgrade to 12.04. Now the keyboard and mouse do not work (both the wireless and the wired versions) but they did work in 11.10, 11.04 and 10.10. Connecting via SSH, lsusb shows both the keyboard and the mouse.

At the terminal, I'm stuck at the login prompt.

There is no BIOS option for USB legacy support, as such, and this is a 2007 motherboard. Mind you, I don't suppose it should matter since it worked under 3 previous versions of Ubuntu and 1 version of SUSE, so I'm thinking it's a problem with 11.04.

Can someone help me kickstart the mouse and keyboard?

Does the system have a make and model?
If you boot the Precise liveCD, does it work ok?

Poster Stupidity. I actually forgot what year it was. As ActionParsnip seems to realize, I was actually talking about 12.04, not 11.04 as posted in the original question.

I have corrected the question.

I actually did a distribution upgrade and did not download and burn a CD. I'll try that now.

To answer the question: Yes, the keyboard and mouse work when booting from the Live CD.

The system does not have a particular make and model. It's a Pentium D processor on an XFX nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard.

The problem has never been resolved. When I first posted the question, I accidentally used the previous year's revision number (11.04) and for days, no one responded other than to suggest I try 12.04. I corrected the question and didn't get any responses after that.

It dawned on me that perhaps the many of the experts only check for new tickets and had ignored my original ticket because it referenced and outdated release, so I closed this ticket and opened a new one with the correct version numbers.

It didn't work, I still don't have a response.

Curiously, I tried installing Mint linux to that system using their upgrade option (which keeps the accounts intact) but it also doesn't have a working keyboard and mouse.

I'm trying to search newer version and couldn't find it, can you please link it here? I'll subscribe and confirm it.

And I think it is kernel issue than OS (as Mint also have it)

Thanks
