Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | grep flash; dpkg -l | grep gnash; dpkg -l | grep swf

Thanks

I'll do my best to get this information for you, but I need you to tell me how. I don't know much about interacting with machines on this level, so if you can be as precise as possible it would enhance our chances for success with this issue.

Thank You for your help!

James

Press CTRL+ALT+T

Copy the whole command and paste to the terminal and press ENTER.

Copy the output and paste it here as an update. As you can see it's simple text copying and pasting which I am VERY sure you can do.....

I was able to open terminal and typed the line you gave me. The response was _produce a lot of output pipe it through less or more. the message went on to say for help on installing packages press help

I'm unable to get on line with ubuntu because the wireless doesn't work either. The display is so bad that it is very difficult to make out the text on the screen. I have tried to get into rescue mode or the windows equivalent of safe mode to try and figure something out, but either I'm not sure if I was even doing that right, because I haven't been able to get there.

I hope this is helpful

Thanks

James

Copy the output and paste here as an update. You can can paste to a text file and then paste here using a web enabled system. Or you can use the wired connection as a macbook is essentially an overpriced laptop so is movable

I ran that command. I can't be sure I typed it correctly because the screen is very hard to read. Here's the output:

{{{

Ok so you are clearly new to Ubuntu yet you are using the Alpha release of the OS. I suggest you use Maverick. Natty is NOT ready and NOT stable AT ALL. You will get weird glitches and bugs and feature holes and is NOT for new users.

If you wish to continue using Natty then go ahead but your OS will flake out a lot, hardware will strangely stop working as the devs tweak the kernel and so forth so you will get issues like your initial question states.

I suggest you log a bug to state that there is an issue and to inform the devs that something needs fixing ready for when Natty is released in April. It most likely will NOT be stable even then and will take a number of weeks before the OS settles and is genuinely usable.

Maverick and Lucid are very mature and rock solid.I suggest you use those. You will have a much pleasanter experience (i.e. things actually working)

I have tried Maverick with the same trouble. I tried Natty with the hope that support for the late 2010 Macbook air had been added. I wanted to confirm/report this issue in the hopes it could be resolved before the 11.04 release. I will log a bug. Thanks.
