Software written for Windows does not run on Ubuntu Linux, but there is a Windows emulator that simulates a Windows environment for the software.
This short article tells you how to install it.
FAQ #64: “Using WINE in Ubuntu to run Windows applications”.

Why are some of the people that answer questions so rude. Ubuntu is new to me, and it is not easy to learn. I have the same question about installing software from a cd. I am trying to install the software for my wireless USB adapter. But why should it matter what kind of software it is. All I get is a bunch of error messages. I don't have this type of problem with windows, so excuse me for being so dumb.

We are trying to help you and we need information to help you better so please give more detailed info when you ask a question.
Please don't do generic question, if you ask a generic question then you will receive a general (good) answer.

So please close this one is solved by Thomas Krüger.

You need to install Wine package to try to install and run Windows software.
Not all Windows software run well with wine and also is better to ask for a native Ubuntu software alternative instead of try to run Windows software on Linux.

My better experience is to install Windows in a virtual pc created using the virtualbox on Ubuntu, in this way you don't have any trouble to run any Windows software because using Virtualbox you will run a 100% Windows virtual pc.

In addition to what Marco already said, it seems Mr. B is trying to install the Windows driver software for his wireless adapter. Driver software written for Microsoft Windows will generally not work in Ubuntu, the same as it will not work in Mac OS X - with one exception actually being network devices.

NDISwrapper is a piece of software than enables many drivers for network cards, USB modems and routers written for Microsoft Windows to work in Linux and you may be able to get your card working by using that - you can read more at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NDISwrapper if the device does not already have drivers for Linux.

You should note though that Marco Braida is absolutely correct when he asks you for a more specific question, just saying that you're trying to install some Windows software for your wireless USB adapter is a bit like asking a mechanic to fix your car, but not describing the problem.

Please understand that no one is trying to be rude, but we simply cannot help you without more information.

I hope this helps you achieving what you are trying to do, if not, don't be afraid to ask again.

As for William Pearsons question, installing Wine will make it possible for you to run Windows software, but there is no guarantee as to how well it will perform. Some software run flawlessly while other will not run at all. You can consult the application listing at http://appdb.winehq.org/ to see if your program is listed and for tips on how to run it and if this does not help, try asking again here or search the internet.

Also, telling us the name of the software you are trying to run would help enormously.
