installing "Scripture for all" on wine.

Asked by Timothy Marshall

I see the Wine under applications and four categories show up one is a writing note pad under the "Accessories" tab but the next choice is "Brose C: drive" but when I choose this nothing comes up and the software "Scripture for All" give me a link to copy into it to download using Wine. Since this is a windows application tool do I need to open the virtual box for windows, if so then I have another problem in that when I try to open the virtual box now it won't let me. It worked fine originally. Can you help?
Thanks, Timothy.

If the software runs with Wine, you do not need VirtualBox.

You'll probably need to install the application into Wine. Once you've downloaded the installer for the application, did you try just double-clicking on the downloaded installer file as you would on Windows?

If Ubuntu warns you about file permissions when you try to run the installer, you may need to enable running it as an executable:

1. Right-click on the installer file you downloaded and select "Properties"
2. Go to the "Permissions" tab
3. Tick the "Allow executing file as program" checkbox
4. Close the Properties window and try double-clicking on the installer again

I don't know about this specific application, but usually applications show up under Applications -> Wine -> Programs once you've installed them, just like they would on Windows.

just right click on the filename and select open with wine and your program will get installed and set up in wine. the next time you use it, wine should open it automatically. if not, just right click and select open with wine again.

if the app runs in wine then it will be fine. It's not in the appdb so you are in uncharted territory. Just open the installer with wine and it will kick off. The app may not install or may run badly, it may run super well.

It sounds like you might trying to run a program, rather than install one. Is that the case?

Are the instructions for installing Scripture For All available online? If so, please post a link to them. If not, please describe in detail *exactly* what actions you have taken pursuant to those instructions.

You say that Scripture For All gave you a link to "copy into it." What do you mean by that? To copy into *what*? Are you trying to copy the text of a hyperlink, or are you trying to copy an actual file? Where is this link/file from?

Your problem launching VirtualBox is a separate issue--you should post a separate question about that, which you can do by clicking this link: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+addquestion

Thankss for the help,
ln the "downloader" I get the following instructions:

        ISA on Ubuntu (Linux)
  Latest News:

Wine version 1.2 now properly renders Hebrew text right-to-left within
  ISA v2!

Previously, ISA would install and display Hebrew properly, only the
right to left support could never be properly realized until this latest
  release of wine.
Download the files of ISA 2 and the additional modules you want.

Install the files with wine with the command:

          wine /path/to/the/installer/ISA_basic_v20_RC7.exe

But I don't know what to do with this last line. I tried to open a C: prompt from the applications:wine: "browse c" but when I try to open a wine C: prompt I click and nothing shows up. Should I open a Command line and paste this last line into it?
Thanks, Timothy.

Do you have a file called ISA_basic_v20_RC7.exe somewhere?

If so, navigate to that file in Nautilus (your file browser), right-click on it, and click Wine Windows Program Loader. If that fails, right-click on it, click Properties, click the Permissions tab, check the box that says "Allow executing file as program", click Close, then try again (i.e. right-click on it and click Wine Windows Program Loader again).

Dear Ellah,
I did a search for :
ISA_basic_v20_RC7.exe

as you suggested and it does not exist.
Thanks, Timothy.

Timothy,

You will need to download the installer file from the application's website. On their download page ( http://www.scripture4all.org/download/download_ISA20.php ), there is a download link for. Through that link you can download the installer file for the application -- the name of the installer file is ISA_basic_v2_1_4.exe.

You will need to use the download link to download and save that file on your computer, and then follow Eliah's instructions.
