AutoCAD is not available for Linux-based systems, but it is a Windows program, and *some* Windows programs can be run (with varying degree of quality) on Linux-based systems like Ubuntu using Wine. It seems that people have gotten AutoCAD R14 to work reasonably well on Wine:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=86

So first, install Wine, by going to Applications > Ubuntu Software Center, typing "wine" (without the quotes) into the search box at the upper-right corner of the screen, clicking on the search result "Wine Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer", and clicking Install.

Once Wine is installed, you can try to install AutoCAD R14 by right-clicking on the installer executable on the CD and clicking "Wine Windows Program Loader". If that doesn't work, refer to the above link for additional information. If that doesn't work, please feel free to post again; when posting again, please make sure to detail exactly what you have tried and what happened in response.

Please feel free to post again if you need additional assistance. (If it works, you can come to https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+question/145910 and mark this question as Solved.)

You might also be interested in free open source software alternatives to AutoCAD for computer-aided design, which run natively on Ubuntu. Some of them are listed here (as well as a number of non-CAD engineering applications):

AutoCAD doesn’t run on Linux. But there is a really great CAD software that does run on Linux, called DraftSight. It’s a high quality, commercial (but free) CAD package available for both Linux and Windows. I use it myself and I love it. It’s also compatible with AutoCAD files.
