Share network resources

Can you define "network resources" please. It is very vague

I have old & new computers with different OSs and brands on an Ethernet nezorkFrom each one of these users need to share resources e.g.from a Mac (MacOS 10.6) acess a Filesystem on UBuntu (810) from a Laptop (Ubu 904) use the DVD/CD drive of a Windows desktop (XP SP2) from this desktop access (read/write) a Ubuntu device/disk or mount Using qll these different blends do I have on eg lmy Ubuntu OS flavors diffrent pacquages? is smb the only needed? What about the Mac PCs ? Do I need to install something also?ON the Net there is a lot of contracting/confusing information on that. Hope its clearer. Great thanks for any feed-back.Lapas

Samba is accessible by all systems so you can share folders in all the OSes and they will be able to see each others files.
