unable to use usb3 device in ubuntu 11.10

Asked by Lyn Davies

I have a motherboard with usb3 capability. I can connect my Iomega 1TB external hard drive in Ubuntu Ultimate 2.9 (10.10) and use it successfully. However, on Ubuntu 11.04 0r 11.10 the drive either fails to be seen or it causes a state of panic. Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Kind regards,

Lyn Davies

Have you tried 12.04, the newer kernel may support the port....

Are there any bugs reported?

It may be a permissions thing as Ultimate stupidly has the user logging in as root (very bad design, also mirrors Windows idea too)

When you run command lsusb , do you see the disk ?

Hi,

Thank you for your interest. Yes, I see the disc in the 'lusb' list but
it doesn't appear anywhere else so that I can access it. I should point out
that I am new to the wonderful world of Linux and I'm very much feeling my
way around. As I've said before, I'm using Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.9 and
the Iomega 1TB disc shows up no problem. The problem only exists in 11.04
and 11.10.

Kind regards,

Lyn
