Mounting error after installing Lucid

Asked by Antonio

After installing Lucid Lynx I received the following error stating, "error while mounting /proc/bus/usb". I am new to Ubuntu. I need help. I have noticed that I can't connect to the internet via a hard wire but I can through a wireless connection. I'm not sure if this is related to the error message.

I noticed that during the upgrade process I received the following message:"CUPS server error. CUPS operation client-error-bad-request." But I haven't seen this error since the upgrade was completed.

Everytime I reboot/ start up my laptop it displays the /proc/bus/usb error with option to either to skip or to manual configure. I always select the "skip" option. I want to get this fixed since it maybe causing an unknown problem. I hav e Dell Inspiron.

I suggest you check your BIOS settings are ok with respect to USB as well as fsck your disk so you know all is well. Also make sure you are fully up to date.

Can you also give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the upgrade manager 2 times since and
it says that I am up to date. How do you check the BIOS settings? What do I
need to do?

Is the Lucid OS in a virtual system?

If you boot to live CD and edit the /etc/fstab file in your system partition (not the one in the live CD environment, do you see this line:

none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=125,devmode=664 0 0

When I enter Ctrl-Alt -Enter during the startup (i.e. to check the BIOS), I
get the following:

udevd[306]: SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use
ATTR{}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent device, in
etc/udev/rules.d/85-br1tty.rules:30

Is also says:
/dev/sda1: clean, 275305/9453568 files, 2534802/18876367 blocks (check in 3
months)

Is there anymore info that you need?

add a # to the start of the last line, you will need to run:

gksudo nautilus

Then open the file, edit it and reboot to test
