How can I access the files under MS Windows7 on my computer?

Asked by Harry Gatley

How can I access the files on my hard drive that are inside of the MS Windows 7 OS? I am using my 64 bit laptop and cannot get access to the rest of the hard drive with the 64 bit UBUNTU 10.10 but the other desktop 32 bit computer also loaded up with UBUNTU automatically enabled me to access the parts of the hard drive in the MS Windows XP OS.

You wrote a lot of extra fluff for what I said in a few words. Please bear this in mind in future questions

Can you please give the output of:

lsb_release -a; sudo parted -l; mount

Thanks

Ok I see you are using Wubi (sigh). You can access your Windows data via the folder:

/host

You can make this easier by running:

ln -s /host ~/Windows\ Stuff

If you open your home folder you will see a folder named "Windows Stuff" and your Windows partition data will be there.

Many Thanks. I assume wubi came with the new UBUNTU version for 64 bit.

Its another way to install Ubuntu. It isn't a very good long term solution and the performance of Ubuntu is directly impacted by the shortcomings of NTFS, Mainly fragmentation which a TRUE install does not suffer from.

Does the link show your data?
