Asked by adeignsss

ok something has crashed my sys i cant figure it out. this is what It says where the update icon suppose to be (An error occured,please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Error: BrokenCount > 0'This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies.) My app menu is gone but the others are there.My package manager blinks out when i use it. cant get to the terminal to use it.and it will not let me update like 3 things. It says this for that(E: dpkg was interrupted,you must manually run 'dpkg--configure -a' to correct the pproblem. E:_cache->open() failed, please report.)Oh firefox will not update it just blink for 1 sec then go off. but my firefox does work just wont update. Can anyone tell me what to do step by step how to get in the terminal to do what their telling me to do. Thanks

This is kind of basically cleaning the cache:
sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoclean
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Howto

But there might be too many older kernel images which take lot of space.
Updates of new kernel images don't remove older ones automatically, in case a new kernel image doesn't work.
Hence you need to know how many and which kernel images are installed, in order to remove older ones and keep the latest, lets say two.
Example how to do this:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+question/93412

Next about 'dpkg--configure -a'

Other repair commands are listed here from Mark Rijckenberg:
