Asked by Nigel Marsh

When I run check updates using update manager I get an error message saying 'check your internet connection'. My internet connection is working okay. I then look at then more details information and I get the information below. What does it mean and what do I need to do?

, W:Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/dists/testing/non-free/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 173.194.41.104 80]

Server may be down for maintenance. When did this start?

Thank you for your reply.

I've had this type of problem for about a week. As I encounteted it again
today and had no idea how to 'fix' it I thought I'd post the question.

If a server is down it sounds as if there is nothing I can do. In which
case is it okay to ignore this type of error message?

Thanks

Nigel

Then I suggest you run:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and remove the 2 lines:

http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ testing
deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ testing non-free

Save the new file, close gedit and then run:

sudo apt-get update

You can then grab the deb file for Chrome from the Google websites and install it, it will add the repo for you.

Can you help with this problem?
