Current version of Ubuntu being used is 10.04LTS lucid lynx.
I'm not sure if I completed the last series of updates,Screen went
blank. I possibly exited before
completion on 4/13/12.

Current kernel release level is 2.6.32-41. You can see your kernel level if you open a terminal window and type:

uname -r

If you run updates, either from the DE or from a terminal window, does it complete normally with no errors?

In that case, if your kernel is at 2.6.32-41 and it updates without errors then you have no problem - everything is fine.
