Just upgraded to Natty and no menubar

Asked by bill purvis

I've just upgraded to Natty and it looks like my worst move ever.

Apart from all the other things that have disappeared, Firefox now has no menubar. How can I get my menubar back?

Can't tell you which version of Firefox as the Help/About thingy is in the menubar which isn't there.

Bill

(1) Menu bars are now present in the panel (the horizontal bar at the top of the screen). Move the mouse pointer up to the panel, and the menus appear. This is always the menu associated with the foreground application window, and it works this way whether or not that window is maximized. Keyboard shortcuts for menus continue to work as they have before. Is this not working?

(2) The Unity interface is different from the classic interface. You might benefit from checking out the documentation (available https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/ubuntu-help/index.html and also on your own machine). Many if not most users seem to find they prefer Unity once they get used to it. But some do not, and there's nothing wrong with that, so....

(3) ...If you dislike the new Unity interface, you can switch back to the classic interface by selecting "Ubuntu Classic" or "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)" as the session type in the login screen. This setting is available in the bottom bar on the graphical login screen after you have specified your username, while you are being prompted for your password.

I had just figured out how to switch back to Classic, which solved my immediate problem.

I'll experiment with the Unity interface, but would have thought it would be
more user-friendly for the upgrade to leave me in that mode and shown me a
recipe for switching, rather than dumping me in a totally alien universe!

@sarang
If your problem is not solved by post #1 in this question (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+question/164562), then it may be a different problem, and you should post a separate question about it (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+addquestion).
