gnome-panel gconf issues

Asked by Paul Tagliamonte

Hey Mobile,

I have an issue -- I can't change gconf keys under Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04 RC.

I find the desktop unusable without more then one desktop, and want to swap out some applets, and change it's color scheme.

I figured that the grey'ed out menu items on the right-click for the menu could have been a mistake, so I attempted to modify my host with gconf-editor.

It came out with two warnings: "This key is not writable" and "This key has no schema".

I figured gconf-editor might have a small bug. So I went in by hand, and the XML files were blank.

I am very frustrated with this regression.

How do I:

  * Remove applets from the gnome-panel
  * Add applets to the menu bar
  * Make the panel writable again

Thanks in advance!

Is there *anyone* who knows the internals of gconf with Ubuntu Netbook? This is a pretty big thing to just slide by.

Hi :)

Launchpad does not have a good way of dealing with questions more than a few days old. Also it is not designed to ensure that things don't slip through the net! I have posted bug-reports about these issues but they are not treated seriously.

Please repost this question and try to keep it short. Hopefully someone will answer this time now that the beta phase is over

Perhaps even paste a link back to this question to help you keep the question shorter

Good luck and many apologies from
Tom :)

HI ?

Did this question ever get an answer? If you re-post then hopefully someone should be able to help by now
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-netbook-default-settings/+addquestion
Also the other forum at
http://www.ubuntuforums.com
might have someone that knows the answer to this sort of thing. Perhaps also the more general linux forum at
http://www.linuxquestions.org
might be able to answer?

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
