Ubuntu 12.10 installation crashes on my system.

Asked by Charlie

Hi,

I created a USB flash drive with Ubuntu 12.10 ISO.

I used the USB dirver to install Ubuntu on a system with Intel ATOM in it. The installation goes thru to a point that it says I need to restart. Immediately, I got a window saying that the installation crashed. I have an image for that window. I cannot find anyway to attach the image here. If you want, I can send you the image.

On the other hand, I used the same drive to install Ubuntu 12.10 on my other system, it runs fine and I have the system worked.

As far as I know, both systems are Intel-based x86 CPU. One of them is ATOM. I can find out more if you need the information.

Thanks,
C.

If you get to the restart phase then the install was ok. What happens when you try to boot the installed OS?

Hi,

First, thank for handling this issue quickly.

I got the window saying I need to restart, then right after click the button "Restart", another window pops up stating that installation crashes. It shows several function calls (I guess it is python) and indicating I am allowed to file a bug report. After that, I powered down and up the system, it shows number of processes with [OK] status and hangs.

I took a picute of the window that shows "installation crashes", but I can't find a way to upload the picture. If you want, I can send you a picture.

Thanks.

Hello,

Have you had a chance to look at the picture yet?
Do you have an idea about the crash?

Thanks.

Do you have web access in the liveCD? If so then you can run:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubiquity gparted
sudo apt-get clean

Then try the install. If the system is a laptop then you can move near your router and use a wired connection. I assume you MD5 tested the ISO before you used it.

Hi,

Thanks again for handling this issue.

If I understand your suggestion correctly, at some point during installation process, I need to have access to terminal.

If yes, then I think your suggestion is not going to work: we cannot get access to a terminal at all.

If no, please give me a little more instruction of how to perform your suggestion.

Thanks.

In the live Ubuntu desktop running off the CD, press CTRL+ALT+T and run the commands. You will need web access etc

Hi,

I did what you suggested. At command line, I issued the 3 commands as said. Then, I proceed with the installation. After clicking "Restart now", the system boots up and provide me with a selection of what OS I want to boot. I select Ubuntu 12.10 and then, the system hangs as shown in the following image:

Please let me know if the information is readable from the image.

Thanks.
