Download Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by jc@infowest.com

I am almost down loading Ubuntu 11.04 when I get a pop-up error message (could not download the upgrades) It stated "The upgrade has been aborted. Please check your Internet connection (was connected to the Internet) or installation media (don't know what that is or where to find it) and try again. All files downloaded are kept.

I close this error box and my distribution upgrade also goes away. I don't know what to do to finish the download. Help
 thanks - - Jim

Please refer to upgrade notes.
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/upgrade

Make sure
- there is a backup of important data (in case of reinstallation due to upgrade conflicts)
- disable all third party repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list or via GUI sofware sources
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Third-Party_Software_Tab
- the current version is completely upgraded
- disk has enough space (since few hundred packages will be downloaded and saved to disk first)
- in case clean-up the disk (by e.g. removing older kernel images)
http://jaypeeonline.net/tips-tricks/howto-remove-old-ubuntu-kernels/

In case run in a terminal:
sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get autoremove

Went to Natty Upgrade site. Completed "Before you start". Completed all the steps "Upgrade from 10.10 t0 11.04. Went to Systems>Administration>Update Manager. Showed system up to date. Clicked on Upgrade for Ubuntu 11.04. Release Notes page opened. Clicked on upgrade. Window came up asking if I wanted to start the Upgrade. Clicked button to start upgrade. This is where my trouble starts. Window with ERROR Message comes up, stating (could not down load upgrade), with message (The upgrade has been aborted. Please check your internet connection or installation media and try again - download files are kept. It said :failed to fetch http//samarium - - (three files) not found. Clicked close button, Took me back to Distribution Upgrade page then closed me out of up grade. Ubunyu 10.10 was never upgraded to 11.04. Don't know where to go from here. Thanks Jim

Not an official ubuntu repo. Seems to be that third party repos are still enabled. Disable them first.

Run system->administration->update-manager, then preferences and after loot at "repositories".

I did systems>administration>up-manager, there was no preferences and after loot (I don't know what that means) at" repositories" don't know where that is.
Thanks, Jim

It's the tab 'other software' in 'software sources', which again can be found in system administration menu on Maverick.

No need to go to a web site. Maverick is Ubuntu version 10.10, which you're about to upgrade to 11.04 (Natty).

Options to get to software sources:
System -> Administration -> Software Sources

Maybe it's hidden in administration menu. You could open
System Preferenes -> Main Menu
and enable the entry in administration tree.

Or open it via Synaptic.
System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager -> Settings -> Repositories
