Hi!!
The picture and sound would be like as if you have entered a CD or DVD
full of scratch. Itgets stuck then plays, sound breaks etc. I guess
this would help...
Thanks

My next question is: what are the computer is question hardware specs, i.e. CPU, RAM ( amount), video card..etc. Additionally if you click system->administration->hardware drivers; does this show any drivers in use (would only be applicable if your computer has nvidia or ati gfx.
Thanks-
David

Hi David,
Thanks for the response. Here are the details of my computer..

Motherboard:
Model No:- M3A78-EM
vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC.

Processor:
model name : AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor
cpu MHz : 2209.829
cache size : 512 KB
Memory
1gb RAM
Display :
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
       vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
       physical id: 5
       bus info: pci@0000:01:05.0
       version: 00
       width: 32 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: vga_controller bus_master cap_list
       configuration: driver=fglrx_pci latency=0 module=fglrx

And yes it shows ATI accelerated graphics driver in use when I go to

system->administration->hardware drivers
Addition to that David my system runs very slow. Everyone says Ubuntu is faster. But I aint experiencing anything. I have given you the hardware specifications may be that could help too.

Thanks
Jim

" I did sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extra"

It is wrong command.Right is

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Before you run that command check if you have universe and multiverse repositories enabled.See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

If VLC or Totem doesn't work, and you want to watch dvd movies or downloaded flv video files in Ubuntu,
Google for "flv flash Totem internal data stream vlc undf"
... it's better to install everything in 32 bit, even if you have a 64 bit machine, as there are something missing in 64 bit depository like drivers, codecs,...

Can you help with this problem?
