hi uksilvio1, to start totem from the terminal just go Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

If you get any errors I guess post it here or start a new question :)

Hi Christopher,

So simple! This is the error I received:

martin@Upstairs:~$ totem

** (totem:5635): DEBUG: Creating object of type BBCViewer+TotemPythonPlugin

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.

backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

TIA

Do you have any updates?
Also do you have the Desktop Effects running under System->Preferences->Appearance in the Visual Effects tab?

Dear all,

I seem to have the same problem, but it also occurs in other video player so it might be related to a codec of some sort? Totem closes directly opening a .avi file. Below is the message from the terminal Any ideas? I already turned of any visual effects I had.

jan@UBUMadMed:~$ totem

i have a similar problem. movie player closes a few seconds after a video is started. No message is displayed on opening through terminal, the player starts and stops as usual. Desktop effects are not on.
