sudo apt-get install libdvdread4; sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Should do it. I also recommend you add the medibuntu ppa:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

Should help

Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply,

Iam a novice to computers.Use to installing software from a cd. I tried to
input the commands in the terminal what apears to be
DOS commands but it did not work.The computer said libdvdread4 is already
installed.
and the 2nd part of the command
sudo/usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
I also tried to install drivers for a lexmark x6675 that I have and no
luck.The dialog keeps asking for a root password.Iam the admin so should be
able to install.this is all on Ubuntu 10.04. Is this due to my ibm thinkpad
being a 32bit instead of a 64bit??

thanks

Please create an additional question for your printer issue.

What happens when you try to play a DVD now?
