I have for a long time maybe a month (it's because of that crazy bug-informaton on this website read below*) problems with automatic downloads (I don't know if thats the update-manager, because in ubuntuforums they translate it in that word and on Launchpad the same word is Synaptic, how stupid).
Everytime I get an automatic update it stops in the map /tmp/tmpxxXx (is a tempfile & xxXx has everytime another name, but sometimes it has also a mapname). The whole download is going well (sorry it's in Dutch) but than is following text coming (befor I have to say 'y/n'(I've tried myself even the two ways, but after no the installation stops.

Than it stops, a sort of a crash because I don't get an error-message and I can't close it myself. The message on the display I can't copy it with all sellect with the update-mannager with Ctrl+C /Ctrl+V. After a Ctrl+C the it closed and it give an error that the update wasnot going well.
I tried it to update with the use of the terminal, also:

Without an error message the update stops. I have also an update from the terminal and it stops after downloading 14%.
In my opinion the map [tmp] must be empty after rebooting, with the use of Ubuntu it never was empty!
Ofcouse I have other problems but I asked enough questions about how to delete my 'Windows network' but never got an answer or the given solution was not the right one. And I visit in most time English/American Ubuntu-fora to get my information (without the tracker of Google in it, there are also fora which use the ssl-version of the Google-tracker (https), than it's okay for me).
Maybe all my problems are a chain-reaction to get that terrible Windows- (I have used the settings of Windows-7 -network [internet-settings] during the install of Jaunty, Lucid and now with precise), but it's not possible to delete it.... and install a Ubuntu (gnome network-manager).... I have also problems with the settings of my new Synology NAS.
Microsoft said the only way to delete it is to install my last Windows version, I was happy that I deleted Windows after 31-years!
In the same way I have problems with my new modem/router of my provider which use another settings in it. My provider use 192.168.178.xx and before it was 10.0.0.1 what are also the Windows-settings. I thought and I even read something like that on the internet, if I put/start a new home-network with the Live-cd (Ubuntu 12.4.2.2) and I give it the new settings (with 192....), what I tried... it wasn't going..
I get even problems with my transparant-firewall (ufw)..... because some ports are for eth0 op 10.0.0.2. My new modem-router is now in DHCP. By the way I'm working with a desktop, why I get an Asus touchpad update :-), must be an combination with something

Even the searcher here gave you (or I) not that solution. In that way 'Launchpad'is a terrible organisation!! All is in US-english and most words are not written in my dictionary English-Dutch.... so how can I understand that? Most of time I visit the department of bugs but because all those strange 'tags' the searcher give not the right answers, so maybe my start-problem is a bug! Then you are fasst ready :).
So after 31-year (I came from the Atari/Commodore64-period) working with Windows I'm a happy Ubuntu-user... there are problems but it can worser as with Windows!!
With my question you have a stiff job to get a solution, but I gave you enough information for the first problem. Maybe you (or more volunteers) can help me out of this. There are 77 updates waiting for me.
With most problems I try to get a solution in the Ubuntu/Linux-fora, without the first problem of-course.
