Malformed line 48

How do I unfreeze it?

Here's the error message:

E: Malformed line 48 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

cat /etc/apt/sources.list | head -n 48 | tail -n 1

I have tried some things from here but my synaptic package manager is still frozen.

Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal

NOW IT READS: E: Malformed line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
(absolute dist)
E: The list of sources could not be read. AND NOW MY UPDATE MANAGER IS
DOING THE SAME THING ,, PLEASE HELP...

You didn't give the output of the command.

Can you give the output of:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list | head -n 54 | tail -n 1

If you don't give the information we need, we can't help you. USING CAPS HELPS NOTHING AND IS HARDER TO READ SO DON'T BOTHER AND TYPE IN LOWER CASE

ok i went to Applications,Accessories,Terminal and copied the output and
pasted it and this is what back:
deb http:// packages.medibuntu.org/ gutsy free

ok run:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

find the line:
deb http:// packages.medibuntu.org/ gutsy free
and change it to:
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ gutsy free

You cannot add a space in URLs because you feel like it, it simply wont work. You can then save the file and order wil be restored.

Just so you know, Gutsy is no longer supported. Hardy is the earliest desktop and server release we can support. Gutsy died on April 18th 2009 so your request for packages will fail:
