Sudo won't respond to my password.

Asked by dlfreem

I am using Ubuntu 8.04. I'm trying to install Java, and when I used the su command in Terminal, it would not accept my password. When I tried to use sudo (which is what usually use), I got the following message:

usage: sudo -h | -K | -k | -L | -l | -V | -v
usage: sudo [-bEHPS] [-p prompt] [-u username|#uid] [VAR=value]
            {-i | -s | <command>}
usage: sudo -e [-S] [-p prompt] [-u username|#uid] file ...

Before today I could type in sudo, enter my password, and it worked fine. Is there a way to reset my password for sudo?
Thanks for any help.

The sudo password is your password so to change the password fro sudo you must change your password...
So if sudo is working please don't change any password.

To get plain root access (not suggested is better to use sudo) you can type:

sudo -i

Hope this helps

Please take care the sudo command usually is used to run a command with root privileges... so please try to type, for example:

sudo apt-get update

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter, to see if sudo works.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I had forgotten about entering the command following sudo.
