No, you can't (because of security). Read something about root and sudo in Ubuntu here -- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

The password is there for security reasons and you can't remove it. Usually there is the root account for administrative purposes, but in Ubuntu you can assign administrator role to many accounts like in Windows.

You might be the only user of your PC, but removing password would enable viruses, spyware and other malware as well as hackers much easier to intrude, infect and cause harm to your PC (that's a common problem on Windows XP, where most of the home computers are run with administrative privileges without passwords. Vista has now UAC, which is something similar to password management in Ubuntu, but poorly implemented). The system asks you for password only for the security/stability sensitive applications, settings or files which actually shouldn't get in your way too much, unless you deal with these things a lot.

You can though avoid of using your password in some cases but which are all considered unsafe and are not recommended. You can set your login automatic in System->Administration->Session Manager. In command line interface you can switch to root user by typing "sudo su" and type in your password, after that you don't need to enter passwords since you are root and the system assumes you know what you are doing.
