I'm always asked for root password when attempting to install software and I don't know what it is

Asked by Douglas WGB Duncan

When I try to download eg. an updated version of Adobe Flash, I always seem to end up being asked for the root password, which I don't know.
Is there a way around this, or am I stuck?

Just enter your regular password. In Ubuntu, running programs as root is accomplished by entering your own password. If you don't remember your password, you'll have to reset it (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword). If you have further problems with this, please don't hesitate to post a reply in this question, asking for further assistance.
