How do I gain access to administrator priveliges to install programs

Asked by John Bott

Trying to install various programs drivers etc that require root, administrator or su priveliges. Have no clue on how to run su or sudo, how to unlock root password. Perhaps there are better versions of linux to use?

The sudo password is the password you use to log into Ubuntu. The sudo command will not show the password while you are typing it. This is normal and done for security reasons.
