Download Problem with Sun Java 6.0 Plugin

Asked by Robert Pike

When trying to download Sun Java 6.0 Plugin I get a message that says

"waiting for other software managers to quit" In the column with "Get Free Software" and "Installed Software" it says "In Progress (1)" with rotating green arrows. How do I find out what these software managers are and make them quit?

Try copy and paste this in your terminal:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

put in your password, you will not see it

When it gets to the point where it says Y/N hit enter

Then to except terms press F12 then arrow to the left and
hit enter..

When I use the icetea java I have all kinds of problems..

I tried this and got the following response on my terminal.

Bob Pike

oem@freekbox:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
sun-java6-fonts
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  sun-java6-jre: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6.20dlj-0ubuntu1.9.10) but it is
not going to be installed or
                          ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6.20dlj-0ubuntu1.9.10) but
it is not installable
Recommends: gsfonts-x11 but it is not going to be installed
  sun-java6-plugin: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6.20dlj-0ubuntu1.9.10) but it
is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify
a solution).
oem@freekbox:~$

When ever I try to down load any thing from the Ubuntu Software Center It
now starts to down load then gives me the error

"E:I wasn't able to locate a file for the sun-java6-jre package. This might
mean you need to manually fix this package. (due to missing arch): "

I could not find software sources in the directions below.

Unistall all of your java and start fresh.

Did you update your software source?

system - administrator - software sources - click the tab other software , put a check in the boxes in front of these two lines
http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner (Source code)

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner .

then close , a window will pop up ask do you want to reload , click reload .

Then open your terminal and put this in there:

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

Y/N just hit enter.
Then click 12F and arrow to the left and hit enter.
