Simplescan problem with HP6200c Scanjet
Hi,
I've been having problems with scanner. Simple scan (SS) says there is not connected check power is on. However the scanner operation light is obviously on. Yes all the connections are tight and correct. I have to reboot system and it will operate for half dozen scans then the communication with the scanner dies. Oddly SS see's my scanner as - HP Scan jet 62X0c – I have deleted and re downloaded SS several times. I've tried Admin and command line attempts yet I still get this problem. Any ideas on how to correct this?
Thanks

Hi Michael,
No it's the same. It appears the light on the scanner which scans the document remains on all the time. Normal operation this light goes off each time a scan makes a pass with HP's scanning software. Simple Scan works I believe until (light) something gets hot or locks up due to memory issues with the scanner. Also, when I go to save the document the list text is backward z to a instead of a to z. I'm not sure what is going on.

i suppose this means it is the same with xsane/scanimage.
in this case the best thing to do (by a big margin) is to mail sane-devel http://

Hi Michael,
Here is some additional information it may help.
Well yes it did with USB HP said don't use SCSI. But it hassteadily gotten worse. If I might explain, the scanner light isalways on now. In the past before the scanner operated the lightwould switch on before the arm would travel past the document. Thatlight is always on now. After 6 passes the arm goes to move but itlocks ¼ of the way down a document and then it freezes. I can resetthe arm only if I completely turn off the scanner and turn it back onagain at the power source; the light goes out! The arm travels backinto the neutral position. Recently, when I turn off all theapplications the scanner will pass through the 6th try but it goesvery very slow. It would take 20 min to make a single pass. Veryunsatisfactory I'm afraid.
I use a new machine and the scanner isan old bit32 machine. But I believe this shouldn't be a problemaccording to the Linux people. I get the feeling the scanner isrunning out of memory somehow. I remember long time ago I had to talkto HP to get some scanning software that didn't come with themachine which I'd newly purchased. It worked fine however as windows went from XP to others thesoftware wouldn't load. I need help with this as its beyond myknowledge and skills base.

Hi,
I've not heard back from any body since I asked for help with the simplescan people. I'm still waiting for an answer. Do I need to get a new scanner? Are HP scanners a problem?
