We need to query your PC for some hardware and software info (chip ID, ubuntu version, CPU type).

Can you plug the scanner into your PC, ensure it is switched on and then open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T, or from dash), then paste these commands, and paste the result here:

uname -a
lsb_release -a
sudo lsusb

?

Note that the last command will ask you for your password - please enter it, but note that you won't get any acknowledgement of password input until you press enter.

Your scanner is not listed on http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-BENQ so it will not probably.
If you are really dedicated to make it work and have strong technical interest, you may contact the sane developers at http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/sane-devel

Don't contact them if you are 'just a normal user' -- you will be wasting their time and yours. Otherwise that is the place to go.

Sorry I cannot give more positive feedback.

Best Regards
