Have a look at https:/
It notes Scribus Files are NOT backwards compatible, and Scribus-trunk is not updated anymore in 14.04 LTS as the Qt used by 14.04 is too old (with suggestion to upgrade to 16.04 LTS if you use Scribus). Note: I've never used it, and know nothing about Scribus - this is what I find on looking. With luck someone else will know more...

this may be a more useful PPA
https:/
with instructions found on http://
I looked and it appears to have a version for 14.04 LTS.

I did see that part about not being backwards compatible but i said for Scribus-trunk and Scribus-ng, I was assuming the regular Scribus would be backwards compatible.
Also i tried that other link and get this message
Error reading https:/

I do not really understand why you use PPAs. There is scribus available in the standard Ubuntu repositories (version 1.4.2).
Please provide the output that you receive for the following commands (to be execute in a terminal window):
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cache policy scribus

In the Ubuntu software centre they do have one but I cannot get it to download, I get the message "Requires insallation of untrusted packages" with the options ok and repair which both dont do anything for me.
This information might be useful...I didnt use or update my computer for many months and when I came back to using it I had many updates pending and none of them would download. I had to go into software and updates and change where things "download from" and that allowed me to update with much patience and tinkering. But now with the same strategy I cant get to download or update anything from software centre.
As for the output on the commands
uname -a=
Linux michael-
lsb_release -crid=
No command 'Isb_release' found, did you mean:
Command 'lsb_release' from package 'lsb-release' (main)
Isb_release: command not found
apt-cache policy scribus=

You mistyped the second command; the first character has to be a small L, not a capital I
Please try agan, preferably with copy/paste:
lsb_release -crid

1. You are using an old version of the kernel (3.13.0-38) which is already four years old. The current one is version 3.13.0-141
You should consider installing updates.
2. If you receive the message "requires installing software from untrusted sources", then you should verify whether everything is correctly set up with respect to the package management system.
What output do you receive for the command
sudo apt-get update

Although I am in general ignorant about this Kernel, I am interested in updating it especially after hearing it is that old and after running into all these problems that didnt exist before.
Unfortunately I am also ignorant about the package management system

Are you aware of any network problems?
Your output shows "Could not resolve 'server_name'" for several servers that I can reach with my system.
Try running the command "sudo apt-get update" again and another time.
Does the error message stay the same?

I am unaware of any network problems, It may be worth noting that my computer was always updated and working in Canada and now I am in Brazil i dont know if the internet or region affects anything.
the output for the command "sudo apt-get update" appears to still be full of errors

This is weird:
W: Failed to fetch http://
Could not resolve 'screenshots.
When trying to access 'archive.
Which kind of network access do you have? Are you using a web proxy? Etc.?
