can't add music to my ipod with rhythmbox

Asked by tlalokman

I'm completely new in Linux and I have no expertise in programming computers. It has been very hard for me to understand and use the new applications. My problem is that I have tried to add music to my ipod with RB. I select the songs I want to add and drag them to the iPod icon but nothing happens. I'm using RB 0.12.5 and I have an iPod classic of 120 GB. How can I add music to my iPod? I was searching on the online forums and in another question someone suggested to use gtkpod, but once I installed it, it didn't recognize my iPod.

I really don't want to use gtkpod because it requires a little bit more expertise of something I don't understand. Can I add music to my iPod using RB?

downloaded and install Songbird to your system add the add-on for iPods. upload an album, unplugg the iPod and switched it on, and the music is there hopefully....
Rhythmbox: do you have enabled the ipod plugin?
Is the ipod recognized as an usb device?

I installed Songbird but when I try to download the add-on for iPod I find that the version of Songbird I got is not compatible with that add-on. Why is that happening?

And yes, in Rhythmbox I have installed the iPod plugin and I don't know if the iPod is recognized as a USB device. How can I know it?

I've already tried with gtkpod, but it does not recognize my iPod, as I said in my first post.

This is quite frustrating!

The iPod plugin for Songbird *was* quite useful, but is now abandoned and does not work with the latest version. Songbird doesn't seem to natively support transferring songs to media players, so it's pretty much useless at this point.

To see if your computer recognizes the iPod as a USB device, run lsusb. My 5G nano appears as simply "Apple, Inc." in lsusb's output. It should also appear on your desktop and in Rhythmbox's left-hand column.

This will sound stupid, but have you tried actually opening your iPod's folder (e.g. /media/IPOD) and then copying the music, rather than just dragging the music to the icon?

I have the same (?) problem as tlalokman.
I am using Intrepid Ibex, 8.10. and my iPod is 5th generation nano.
I have ripped a few tracks on to my hard disk (in MP3), and can play them quite happily on the computer using Rhythmbox. When I connect my iPod using a USB cable, an iPod icon appears on my desktop, and in the Rhythmbox side-panel. However, I can't transfer the tracks to the iPod. If I click-drag, they drift back where they came from. If I use Copy and then Paste, nothing happens.
And yet ... If I double-click on the desktop IPod icon, it opens a window with several folders. It looks as if it wants to help me!
I'd be grateful for any explanation and solution.
