Where are my missing files?

Asked by jon sayer

I've downloaded a new album from Amamzon autorip. One minute they're there, the next they're Missing Files". They did come back but have now gone again. The location is shown as /tmp. I've searched my files but can't find this location.
I've set the preferences to "watch my Library for new files" but they're still not added.

I'm new to linux and up till now, have been mightily impressed. I'm enjoying Ubuntu, but if this carries on I may have to fork out for a Mac!!

You must not use the /tmp folder for personal use. It is a special folder where programs can store their _temporary_ files. It is emptied out on every restart of the computer. To keep your files persistent, store them somewhere inside your personal home older. It is /home/your_username/. You can create new subfolders there as you prefer.

Hi Thomas

The preferences will not allow me to choose my own folder! I select Home>music but it doesnt select. It remains at default.
Is there a way to override this? Maybe deleting and re-installing the software?

Hi Thomas

This is what preferences offers. When I select a specific folder it
resorts to this as default.

Any suggestions?

You can reset the database setting by opening the Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and running this command:

dconf reset -f /org/gnome/rhythmbox/rhythmdb

Make sure rhytmbox is not running!

I tried that as per screen shot. (Please bear in mind i'm new to Ubuntu
and Terinal).

Nothing has changed.

Have I done it right? Do i need to do anything else?

I can't see anything online about 'amazon autorip'

Do you have any links to the service online?

Thanks

It's a new option to download MP3 files of any CD purchased online.
I purchased a CD and downloaded the MP3 files (linux only supports 1
download at a time).

They were playable but later disappeared and showed up as missing files.

Also, I can't change the preferences to download to a specific folder.
I've deleted and re-installed Rhythbox twice now, with no luck.

Now I tried that myself I see the problem. The Amazon cloud players is downloading the file to the set download folder of your browser to open it in a player.
If your are using Firefox you can adjusting that folder in Edit → Settings on the first tab.

BTW: This platform does not support any kind of attachments. They are cut off.
