psensor package version 4yr older than current version

Asked by Batwam

Hello,

I looked at the version of the psensor package being shipping with Ubuntu 23.10 and noticed that it is 1.1.5 (released in 2016) which the current version is 1.2.1 (released in 2020)

This is also flagged here: https://launchpad.net/psensor/trunk/1.2.1

Is there a specific reason the 2020 version is not the one being packaged?

Manfred Hampl suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #3037: “no rolling release”.

In addition you have to be aware that Ubuntu is copying packagers from Debian (to avoid double packaging work), an Debian does not have a package with a version higher than 1.1.5 either. There is already a bug report in Debian requesting an Update in Debian, https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=953896 and when that is done, Ubuntu will follow with its development version.

There is a PPA with an updated version for the Ubuntu LTS releases, https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/utilities

Are you having issues with the current version in the repository?

Thanks for checking. I don’t have any issue in particular, I just had a couple of suggestions for improvement and was thinking about doing some work on it to implement those but then noticed that ubuntu/debian don’t appear to be shipping the latest version anyway so it seems like that would be a waste of time.

As far as I can tell, the project is unmaintained as the gitlab repo doesn’t appear to allow raising issues/suggestions?

You could email the project guys and offer your expertise / time. I'm sure they'd appreciate it

Have you tried the "New issue" button on https://gitlab.com/jeanfi/psensor/-/issues ?

Hello,

No technical reason, it was just too much time consuming to work on the
debian packaging.
Please also note that psensor does not evolve anymore, I keep using it but
I will just fix major bugs and contributions if any.

Regards,
                   JeanFI.
