Is there a possibility for OpenSSH 8.2 featuring FIDO/U2F to make it into Ubuntu 20.04 LTS?

Asked by GeorgeAmbrose

OpenSSH 8.2 has been released.

https://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-announce/2020-February/000138.html

It features FIDO/U2F key compatibility, and I gather the feature freeze for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is February 27th. FIDO/U2F is a very desirable feature providing an inexpensive option for second factor authentication with a token. Is there a chance that the new(est) SSH makes it into the LTS?

You have to be aware that Ubuntu is taking over packages from Debian (to avoid double packaging work) and Debian has only versions up to 8.1
https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=openssh&searchon=sourcenames&exact=1&suite=all&section=all

First step towards 8.2 in Ubuntu is that Debian do an upgrade in their systems. It is very unlikely that this will happen before "Debian import freeze".

You can create a bug report stating the benefits of the newer version in Ubuntu, but I assume that it is too late for Ubuntu 20.04

I'm the Debian maintainer. I'm working on it, and there is in fact a reasonable chance it'll make it in before Debian import freeze, but I can't promise anything yet.
