If I am understanding correctly, you have set the language to be Australian English inside of OpenOffice.org. However, when you type you are not seeing spelling errors underlined? If so, make sure that Auto Spellcheck is toggled on. To do this, you will need to click on the icon reading ABC that has a red line underneath it. It is located just below "Window" on the "File, Edit, View" Toolbar.

Hi there,

I had similar problem before. I installed openoffice 2 in Windows XP Professional SP2. And openoffice does not has an australian dictionary installed as the default.

The solution is I had to manually installed the australian dictionary. You can download the dictionary from here:
http://www.justlocal.com.au/clients/oooau/
The installation instruction is there too.

I hope this helps.

If you want to installed the aus dictionary for the portable version of openoffice. The instruction is the same except for the folder location. For portable openoffice, put the dictionary files to:
OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\dict\ooo

Note:
OpenOfficePortable - is the folder where all the executable files are.
