I can't get Writer to do a decent envelope format

Asked by Lee Templeton

Formatting a regular #10 envelope (or size of your choice) is a snap in WordPerfect and Word. I never have been able to get even a half-way decent result through several iterations of Ubuntu and OOo. I currently am using 9.04 and OOo 3.0. Thanks, Lee Templeton

Hi Lee

Launchpad says it is going off line soon for maintenance.

When it is back I will get back to you with some tips

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you when that's possible. This
simple thing has given me more frustration than I can tell you -- and I
do follow the instructions in Help. They are somewhat terse. Lee Templeton.

Hi Lee

For some reason there has always been problems with #10 envelopes. (Something that doesn't bother me as I live in the UK and we use the metric size envelopes.) However, what I have found is that you can choose the metric DL size envelope and the address layout for it will print OK on #10 envelopes. Give this a try (using plain paper first so as not to waste lots of envelopes).

Tony

PS If this answers your question, pleas mark is as Solved.

Thanks -- but this doesn't do it, either. The sender address gets
mangled, still. I'd say it was the printer feed except that envelopes
done in WordPerfect and Word come out just fine. Lee Templeton.

Hi Lee

Here in the UK, we don't use sender addresses on the front of envelopes, so forgive me for not trying that out.

What I find is that the sender address needs to be positioned half a centimeter further left than the default or the start of each line gets clipped off, but no worse than that. Is this the problem that you get?

Yes. This should do it. Thanks for the help. Let's consider the problem
under control. Lee.
