open office - auto spelling check

Asked by htan

The spelling check doesn't work. I have followed some suggestions from a web site and make sure default setting is set properly: language setting, paragraph style setting, etc. Only thing I am not sure is library. How can I find out and where I can download it?

Thanks.

Are you using the latest version?
If so, take a look at this: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries

You can get Dictionaries here: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/search/node/english+dictionaries

Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much for replying my email. I am using version 2.4.1 and
not sure if it is the latest one. I have download library from online
site. Te auto spelling works fine, but it doesn't show suggestions when
I right click a wrong spelling. Is it a way supposed be?

Thanks again.

The last version is 3.0. You can get it here:

http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-install-openoffice-3.0.0-on-ubuntu-8.04

The installation is very simpel. But take care, you have to choose the DEB version.

Hope it helps.

Open the OOo Writer, go to "Tools", "Options", "Language Settings", "Languages" and look under "Default Languages for documents. Spellcheckers are identified by having "ABC" and a tick in front of the language, so if you are using English, it will say "ABC English".

You must also install the appropriate "myspell" file for your language. You will find that in the Synaptic Package Manager.

Still under "Language Settings" go to the next screen (Writing Aids) and ensure ticks next to "OpenOffice.org Hunspell SpellChecker" and under "Options" "Check spelling as you type".

The procedure is the same for whichever version of Open Office that you wish to use.

Can you help with this problem?
