hi,
you mean you cannot access any file on a vista disk? Are you trying to open the files with a file browser or with OpenOffice? Also bear in mind, that when you try opening a file with OpenOffice, the dialog window has an option which lets you choose which file types should be visible.

The problem is that I can't even see any files. I tried with OpenOffice and
also with Rythmbuilder(?). Sorry, I don't know the complete correct name,
it's the one for playing cd's accompanying Ubuntu. I tried to copy files
from the Vista disk to the Linux disk but to no avail. From OpenOffice I can
see all the folders on the Vista disk and some files but when I open the
folders, there appears to not be any files in them. I also tried changing
the types of files in the dialog box that also didn't work.

Are the files there if you go into the folder just in a file browser (Nautilus or Dolphin)?

Are they .docx files, which may not be caught by the filters for Openoffice's dialog?

Thye problem was a new b not playing around enogh to find out what was going on. I finally found the files when I looked at the right spot on the file open menu. Thank you for all your help, time and effort. Give me awhile, I might get used to a brand new OS. Been playing with Windws/DOS for way too long.
