problem installing open office .org core update

Asked by Joe Gunto

I get this message when I try to install the update from open office.org which came to me by way of the updates available notification on the toolbar.

Unpacking replacement openoffice.org-core ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_2.0.2-2ubuntu12.5_i386.deb (--unpack):
corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_2.0.2-2ubuntu12.5_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
joe@ubuntu:~$

I have attempted to reinstall the different parts of open office listed in the applications available when I click on the open office listings in the advanced section of synaptic package manager. I am still getting the message.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks

I have been receiving the message that some packages cannot be upgraded whith " dkpg-dev " and "fakeroot":
being listed as the two packages. It says I need to remove more programs before they can be installed.
I have tried to run the suggested "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" to completely upgrade my system, but it hasn't worked. I have been seeing this for a couple months, but it hasn't seemed to cause any problems before.

I just opened add/remove programs - advanced and clicked on mark all upgrades
I received the message that open office core was to be ugraded, and had to be upgraded before I could continue
I continued with that upgrade, and received the message

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_2.0.2-2ubuntu12.5_i386.deb: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

This is more of the same from my original question

Any help will be appreciated

I just uninstalled open office .org along with a lot of related programs and/or files
Then I marked open office for reinstallation
I got this message

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_2.0.2-2ubuntu12.5_i386.deb: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

I don't know what else to try

Try:
"sudo apt-get clean"
This will clean your apt cache.

Then reinstall.

Try to clean your .deb packages cache
sudo apt-get clean
and then try
sudo apt-get update; apt-get install ....

This didn't work - Open office begins opening but none of the applications (word, presentations, database, pictures) will open. Is there any other ideas? It was working before the updates. All files associated appear to be where they are suppose to be. It acts as if Open Office crashes, but there is no crash message. Just not opening to use.

Had a problem while updating the system and since. In the synaptic uninstalled broken packages and now am left without open office. When trying to install from the ubuntu software center got this error:
