This has previously been reported as Bug 527938. I encourage you to go there and indicate that it affects you. You can indicate this by using the green link at the top of the page, "This bug affects N people. Does it affect you?" -- there's no need for you to post anything on that page unless you have additional new information to contribute. You might also want to subscribe to the bug, to be updated on its status. I have added the tag "lucid" to the bug to indicate that it affects OpenOffice.org on Ubuntu 10.10 LTS Lucid Lynx.

The problem appears to occur because the OpenOffice.org developers neglected to consider the case where a user who doesn't have OpenOffice.org Base (the database component of the office suite) installed attempts to set up a bibliography database inside an OpenOffice.org Writer document.

As a workaround for this bug, install the package openoffice.org-base. (If you want the whole office suite, you can install the package openoffice.org, which will include openoffice.org-base.) That should provide the necessary component to allow you to use bibliography databases.

If you have any more questions about this issue, or that workaround is not effective, please feel free to post again!

Eliah

I have done what you suggested to Bug 527938. The workaround you
suggested worked. Thanks

Jacob
