How to get custom animations effects to work?

Asked by Gregor Shapiro

Most of the custom animation effects do not work as expected. What is needed to get them to work?
Example: Transparency; I have a picture that I would like to change the transparency of. No matter what I set the value to, it becomes totally transparent.

Can't confirm.
I insert an image from file.
Right click on image, choose from context menu > area -> transparency
Click on second button from top and adjust transparency.

Or via toolbar.

OpenOffice.org 3.2.1
OOO320m19 (Build:9505)
ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Ubuntu package 1:3.2.1-7ubuntu1

That dosen't work (on images) for me either; but what my original question
concerned was the almost total lack of working CUSTOM ANIMATION effects
(when you change things either after a preset time or a mouse click etc. *
during* the presentation). There Transparency was but one example.
The method you describe works to (permanently) change the transparency of
drawn OBJECTS but not images. Objects do not show other transparencies than
100% when that CUSTOM ANIMATION EMPHASIS EFFECT is applied.
So there are two 'bugs' described here so far:
1) Transparency cannot be applied to images (through the Area > Transparency
menus)
2) The Custom Animation emphasis effect "Tansparency" control of the amount
of transparency does not work, only complete transparency (invisability) is
obtained.

Not sure at the moment if it's expected to file a bug against impress since Natty will deliver LibreOffice, but you may give it a try.

Sam-
Just installed LibreOffice on my Maverick and this transparency custom
animation effect does seem to work partially but there are controls in the
settings that do not seem to do anything (speed) and repeat defeats the
effect entirely...
Custom path effect repeats do not work either, just like OOo on all Ubuntu
releases.
Where do I submit a bug report for Impress in LibreOffice?

I did, and they just folded, waved their arms and shrugged their shoulders
(killed the bug report when no activity was visible for 60 days!)!
It seems that no one really uses Impress and that there are a whole lot of
problems with refreshing the drawing. I suspect the original plan was to
create dialogs that gave the impression that you could do anything that
PowerPoint could do and that development just did not get the resources that
were necessary to make things actually work.

Referring to open source community this means for user 'hands-on' to improve the app.
