can't access seamonkey plugin folder

Asked by Daniel

I'm having trouble getting flash video to work in Seamonkey (or Firefox). Macromedia Flash is installed already as a plugin but doesn't work when I want to watch a video. I checked on the Ubuntu help forum and found that in order to get flash video to work in Seamonkey you have to install a Windows NPSWF32.dll file in the Seamonkey plugin folder. I tried this but am not able to copy the NPSWF32.dll file to the SM plugin folder--I get an "access denied" message. Would appreciate any tips on how to solve this problem!

you need to put libflashplayer.so in the plugins folder for seamonkey. You can find this with:

sudo find / -name "seamonkey*" | grep plug

you can save space by using a symbolic link to the plugin file in the folder output.

I tried what you suggested but there was no result.  I guess the libflashplayer.so file is not in my file system.  Where can I get a copy?

Can you provide the output of:

uname -a

The file architecture must match the architecture of your Ubuntu install

here's the output of "uname -a":

Linux daniel-desktop 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18
18:40:08 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

I did find the libflashplayer.so file by downloading the tar-gz version
of flash player from Adobe. I tried to copy it to Seamonkey plugins
folder but was unsuccessful. Here's the command I used and the result:

daniel@daniel-desktop:~$ cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/seamonkey/plugins/
cp: cannot create regular file
`/usr/lib/seamonkey/plugins/libflashplayer.so': Permission denied

I don't know how it got there but I checked in the Seamonkey plugins
folder and lo and behold the libflashplayer.so file was there. I guess
I did something right. Anyway, flash video is now working in SM.
Thanks for your help!
