There is a service called Ubuntu One (short U1) which can be used for store files in the cloud and synchronize them between multiple computers. This service will shut down in about two weeks.
The files will not be lost. They will stay on your computer but they will not be stored in the cloud any more.

Further details: https://one.ubuntu.com/services/shutdown/
