suddenly today ubuntu doesnt recognize my dvd drive or my cd data drive in my ibm netvista. 8307 61u pc. they worked fine yesterday.

Yes you can have MULTIPLE kernels in Lucid, they will all be lucid kernels. Please can you resond on the site rather than the email. It makes the layout a LOT easier to read. If you hold shift at boot you should be able to select an older kernel and test. It may be a regression bug but we shall see
